(FARO: Lake Mary, FL) -- FARO, the global provider of portable measurement and imaging solutions, released the new SCENE v. 4.7 software earlier this year. Now Oliver Bürkler, laser scanner technical product manager at FARO Europe, explains the most relevant benefits of the new release.
What is the most significant innovation of the new 4.7 version of SCENE?
SCENE 4.7 incorporates new, one-click web-share functionality. This feature allows for easy and secure sharing of scan data via the Internet. Scanned images can now be put online by just a click of a button, thus enabling users such as engineers and architects to share scan information with their customers, suppliers, and partners without additional software. This will help customers improve the efficiency of their projects.
How do these factors differentiate FARO software from competitors’ software?
The web-share functionality is built into the SCENE software and requires no additional software to publish scan data on the web. There is no company on the market today that is able to offer this package with these applications.
How can customers improve their processes using the new version?
SCENE is based on a completely new software foundation that enables us to offer a 64-bit version as well as a version for 32-bit Windows systems. The new 64-bit architecture extends the usable memory, eliminating the limitations given by a 32-bit operating system. This allows for a more efficient point-cloud handling and visualization.
What are the other interesting features of the new release?
A feature that really helps customers in their day-by-day activity is the “Documentation Object.” Users can now mark points of interest in the scan data, add comments, and, using hyperlink technology, attach any kind of document to the scans. This allows point clouds with additional information.
Also, the “Quick View” feature provides all the tools to work on the scan data in undistorted 360° visualization.
What about the usability? Is there some innovation for the customers?
The new version presents an improved user interface with better structured menus, tabbed windows, and new toolboxes. This allows the user to apply the software with less training and ensures more efficiency.
SCENE is the scan-processing software for the FARO Laser Scanner. How much do new laser scanner customers have to pay to take advantage of the new version?
Our SCENE software is delivered with every FARO Laser Scanner at no additional costs
Can you please provide some details about upgrades for current customers?
Current users of a 4.X version of SCENE will be provided with an upgrade at no cost. Our customer service department will be glad to assist all customers that would like to get a free upgrade.
What about customers using an older version of the SCENE software?
They also have the possibility to upgrade. Here, too, our customer service department is the right point of contact for more information.
