FARO Launches New CAM2 Measure 10 Software

Enables point-cloud capture for the first time

Published: Thursday, September 22, 2011 - 14:23

FARO Technologies, Inc., a global provider of portable measurement and imaging solutions, announces the debut of CAM2 Measure 10, its newest software for the FaroArm, ScanArm, and FARO Laser Tracker. This groundbreaking release marks the first time FARO has included features for collecting and analyzing point cloud data as part of its robust CAM2 line, in addition to other new enhancements such as Live Color Scan, Shortcuts and the Easy Move Wizard.

FARO’s CAM2 Measure 10 now provides noncontact users the ability to scan and collect point cloud data for reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, and analysis. The software is the ideal complement to FARO’s recently released Edge ScanArm, and represents a step forward for the Florida-based technology company.

“We’re excited to introduce what is truly a disruptive force in the measurement software space, CAM2 Measure 10,” says FARO chief executive, Jay Freeland. “Never before has FARO offered a software solution that incorporates measurement by traditional probing methods, scanning, and point-cloud capture.”

Other new features like Live Color Scan permit rapid inspection of free-form parts with the FARO ScanArm more quickly and easily than ever before. Live Color Scan highlights deviations from CAD during the scanning process to help identify inconsistencies quickly and expedite the scanning process.

Shortcuts allow for the creation of new commands for obtaining measurement data that previously may have only been available through a series of complex operations. This feature enables users to record steps in a measurement process, and then combines them into a single command to be accessed later.

The Easy Move Wizard simplifies measurement of large parts, particularly when frequent repositioning is a necessity. By enabling quick identification of correct target correspondence, the time required to relocate (or “leapfrog”) the FaroArm is reduced, and the potential for user error is mitigated.

Other enhancements enable CAM2 Measure 10 users to conduct remote measurements, run commands and see real-time results from their Apple iPhone or iPad.

With the many upgrades and improvements included in the new CAM2 Measure 10 release, FARO is pleased that increases to cost of investment in the software remain relatively nominal over the previous version. “We’ve been able to include a number of new and impressive features, not the least of which is the ability to scan and capture point cloud data, and still offer an affordable solution to our customers,” explains Freeland. “We’re committed to helping our customers improve their products and processes. By introducing a software solution that serves their contact and noncontact measurement needs, and by making it so accessible, we are continuing to deliver on that promise.”

In order to ensure customers have continued access to the right solution for their application, FARO will continue to work with the other industry-leading software partners to complement the full FARO suite of products.
