Published: Wednesday, February 13, 2013 - 11:03 Being that this is Valentine’s Day, I can think of no better time and place to express my undying love—for the technical presentations that are offered each year at the Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference. CMSC 2013, which is being held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina July 22–26, 2013, will offer all of us case-study and white-paper lovers a unique opportunity to dive into today’s cutting-edge research and practical applications on the use of portable 3D metrology systems in industry and academia. The technical presentations at past shows featured laser trackers, laser scanners, photogrammetry solutions, CMMs, and many other hardware technologies, not to mention the software that supports them. The best of these presentations appear in our group’s publications, not only here in CMSC World, but in the biannual, printed Journal of the CMSC as well. This year’s show is sure to continue this worthwhile tradition, and our technical presentation dance card is already filling up fast. If you have a presentation you’d like to offer for consideration, please contact Michael Raphael, technical presentations coordinator, at presentations@cmsc.org. Guidelines for presentations and technical papers can be downloaded here. The abstract deadline of March 15, 2013, is coming up fast, so don’t delay. For those of you who have never attended the CMSC, what are you waiting for? CMSC 2013 offers a great venue and locale, unique and entertaining social events, including, this year, a tour of the U.S. Naval Air Station North Island Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW), and access to many of the leading thinkers in our industry. This knowledge is available not only through the technical presentations but also in one-on-one meetings on the exhibit floor, meetings, meals, social events, and breakouts. If you are in an industry such as aerospace, space hardware, antenna, automotive, shipbuilding, power generation, or general engineering, the CMSC is for you. No other trade show rivals the high level of authoritative content provided by CMSC members and master users of portable metrology solutions for quality control, quality production, and precision assembly. For more information on how to attend this year’s show, click here. The Coordinate Metrology Society is devoted to fostering knowledge transfer and the highest levels of professionalism among metrologists. That’s why we’ve developed the first and only Level-One certification for metrology professionals, with written and hands-on testing protocols to ensure that CMS-certified operators are proficient in the tools of the trade. Examinations for this certification will be offered for the first time at CMSC 2013—another reason why you should mark your calendars now and plan to join us in San Diego.
